Call for Papers: Lawyers as Targets: Suing, Prosecuting and Defending Lawyers – Hempstead, NY

The Institute for the Study of Legal Ethics, Maurice Deane School of Law at Hofstra University is sponsoring a conference entitled Lawyers as Targets: Suing, Prosecuting and Defending Lawyers to be held April 1, 2015.

Abstracts Deadline: June 15, 2014.

Increasingly, lawyers are targets in both civil and criminal matters. In practice, lawyers tend to be more concerned about civil and criminal liability than disciplinary liability. This conference will examine the changing legal landscape of civil and criminal claims against lawyers. To include a spectrum of perspectives, we invite papers from scholars and practitioners interested in tackling topics related to professional liability of lawyers.

Papers may cover a range of topics, including those that relate to emerging theories of liability, empirical studies related to malpractice claims, malpractice insurance, criminal prosecutions of lawyers, and risk management issues.

Persons interested in participating in the conference should submit an abstract that is between 100 to 250 words. The abstract should include the proposed title and the author’s affiliation. Abstracts should be submitted to Professor Susan Fortney at susan.fortney[@]hofstra.edu.

The deadline for abstracts is June 15, 2014. The Hofstra Law Review will publish the pieces selected for the conference. Manuscripts for the conference will be due on March 20, 2015 Final manuscripts for the Hofstra Law Review will be due on April 20, 2015.
